�ۿ۴�ý is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its nursing program, honoring seven decades of educating students who have gone on to care for patients, lead in their profession and strengthen communities throughout the region and beyond.

Since its founding in 1956, �ۿ۴�ý Nursing has prepared thousands of graduates for meaningful careers centered on service, compassion and excellence. The anniversary recognizes the students, faculty, alumni and community partners who have shaped the program and contributed to its enduring legacy.

“For 70 years, �ۿ۴�ý Nursing has prepared students not only with the knowledge and clinical skills required of exceptional nurses, but also with the compassion, judgment and resilience this profession demands,” said Dr. Rachel Borton, Chair of �ۿ۴�ý’s Department of Nursing. “This milestone belongs to every student, faculty member, graduate and community partner who have played a vital role in has been part of our story. We are proud of the legacy they have built and excited to advance it forward.”

Throughout its history, the nursing program has evolved alongside a rapidly changing health care environment while remaining grounded in its commitment to student success and high-quality patient care. �ۿ۴�ý Nursing continues to prepare graduates to meet emerging needs, embrace innovation and make a difference in the lives of those they serve.

“�ۿ۴�ý’s nursing program represents the very best of our university’s mission,” said Dr. Dan Moon, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “For seven decades, it has combined academic excellence with hands-on learning and a deep commitment to serving others. The impact of �ۿ۴�ý nurses can be seen in hospitals, clinics and communities here in Peoria and across the country, and we are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.”

The university will commemorate the anniversary by celebrating the people and stories that have defined �ۿ۴�ý Nursing during the past 70 years while looking ahead to the program’s next chapter.
“While much has changed in nursing and health care since 1956, the heart of our work has remained the same,” Borton said. “�ۿ۴�ý nurses enter the profession ready to care, ready to lead and ready to make their difference in the world. This commitment will continue to guide us into the future.”
