Biography

I am Professor of Entrepreneurship and Managing Director of the Turner School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, I dedicated my career to helping people develop their entrepreneurial potential through education, innovation and leadership. I’ve earned my Ph.D. in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP) and have spent more than two decades teaching, mentoring, consulting and building entrepreneurship programs in both Brazil and the United States.

I joined ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ because of its distinctive commitment to entrepreneurship education, where students learn by combining classroom knowledge with hands-on experience, mentorship and community engagement.

In 2016, my family and I moved to the United States. My wife, Cecilia, is also a professor in ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½’s College of Education and Health Sciences, and we have three adult children. For us, Peoria is the perfect blend of vibrant culture and welcoming community.

Outside the classroom, I am a third-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, I enjoy traveling and movies, and I volunteer with ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Some of my favorite spots in Peoria include Rizzi’s Italian Restaurant, CxT Coffee, Forest Park Nature Center and the scenic views along Grandview Drive.

A philosophy that has guided much of my life and career is:

“If you ever see a star, follow it. And if it leads you to a dark and lonely place, do not be disappointed. Had you never followed it, you would always wonder whether that star was meant to be yours.”

Teaching

I teach entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, strategic management, and organizational behavior across undergraduate, graduate, executive, and corporate education programs. Some of the courses I teach at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ include Planning New Ventures, Managing Entrepreneurial Growth, Innovation for All, Mindsets of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Organizational Entrepreneurship. My experiential teaching philosophy emphasizes learning through action, encouraging students to build confidence, creativity, resilience, and leadership through real-world projects, mentorship, and community partnerships.

Scholarship

My research explores entrepreneurial behavior, entrepreneurial leadership, corporate entrepreneurship, innovation, and the organizational factors that enable individuals to create value and drive change. My scholarship seeks to bridge theory and practice by generating insights relevant to educators, entrepreneurs, managers, and organizational leaders.

Professional Experience

Before joining academia full-time, I built a career spanning technology, business transformation, entrepreneurship, and consulting. I began at Cargill, leading technology and organizational improvement initiatives, before joining Citibank as Latin America Electronic Delivery Regional Director, where I oversaw regional technology projects, quality initiatives, and digital banking implementations across South America.

In 2001, I founded Lebre Consulting, advising entrepreneurs, corporations, universities, and public institutions on innovation, strategic growth, organizational development, and venture creation. Over 16 years, I worked with organizations including Avon, Itaú, and Klüber Lubrication while helping entrepreneurs launch and grow new ventures.

As entrepreneurship education expanded in Brazil, I played a key role in the field, partnering with more than 30 universities and government organizations to establish entrepreneurship centers, develop curricula, train faculty, and strengthen innovation ecosystems. I helped create and support more than a dozen entrepreneurship and innovation centers across the country.

I bring a blend of corporate leadership, entrepreneurial experience, and educational innovation to ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½, with the goal to prepare students to create value through entrepreneurship, innovation, and community engagement.

Service

Service has been central in my career. I’ve advanced entrepreneurship education through leadership in academic organizations, student mentorship, entrepreneurship center development, and innovation initiatives in both Brazil and the United States. At ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½, I foster partnerships among students, faculty, businesses, and the community, creating opportunities for students to kick off their ventures in the local business incubators.
