Renewable Natural gas or for natural gas and has a methane concentration greater than 90%. RNG can be produced from several sources, such as wastewater treatment facilities, landfill waste, and animal manure. This market is growing at an exponential rate due to various policies and legal framework for renewable gas. Going into the next decade it looks like RNG is the next step to sustainability as a carbon-neutral fuel. Components involved in the : Biogas Digester:
  • It provides anaerobic environment
  • Bacteria put in the digester to convert biomass to biogas
  • Sludge from here gets used as manure.
  • Collects biogas that has methane content of 40-60% and the rest CO₂
Biogas Conditioning and Upgrading Facilities:
  • Removes the CO2, purifies the biogas to required pipeline standards. Gas formed is called biomethane.
Gas Network/ Interconnection (Point of Receipt):
  • Monitors gas quality
  • Prevents non- compliant gas
  • Measures and odorizes the volume of RNG
When organic waste decomposes, it releases biogas. The biogas is captured and purified to create renewable natural gas. Upgraded biogas is biomethane (90% methane).

RNG upgrading and injection costs fall from more than $30/MMbtu to less than $10/MMbtu as project size increases from10MMbtu/hour to 100MMbtu/hour.

Biomethane can be distributed via existing natural gas pipeline (more than 210 unique pipeline system with 300,000 miles of pipeline) that cover 177 million people in the US as well as other demand centers.

Different pipe lines require different intermediary support. For instance, if there are transverse bents placed at 7500 center and above, there are two intermediate support structures required. Pipes with large diameters should be allowed to cross between main beams so that only the smaller lines exert loading on intermediate supports. Longitudinal beams shall be provided between the bents. These beams are required for tying up the main bents and provide support for intermediate supports. They are also used distributing forces from the pipe anchors that cannot really be located at an early stage. Column base plates in the transverse (moment frame) direction may be designed as either fixed or pinned.As per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a minimum of four anchor rods required to resist a small moment. To minimize layout errors, the base plate is usually squared with a square and concentric anchor hole pattern.
