Lincoln, IL – Samantha Hazzard, a rising senior at Cornerstone Christian Academy (CCA), has signed a Letter of Intent to continue her education and volleyball career at Lincoln Christian University (LCU) beginning the 2017-2018 school year.
Hazzard, a 5'7" outside hitter from Atlanta, IL, has seen steady improvement over her high school career and is looking to build on that during her senior year. The three-time varsity team captain is coming off a junior season in which she earned all-tournament accolades at the LSA Invitational, the Calvary Invitational, and the Blue Ridge Round Robin Tournament. For the second consecutive year, Hazzard was honored by the ECIC Conference as an honorable mention all-conference selection.
"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to coach Sam" said CCA Head Coach John McLain. "I am excited to see how she will succeed at the next level. She has impacted and continues to impact our team immensely, and though she will be missed for her ability on the court, she will also be missed for her example as a follower of Christ on the team and in our school."
Hazzard's early commitment was a welcomed addition to the LCU Red Lions volleyball program.
"Samantha is an excellent fit for our team athletically and spiritually" said LCU Head Coach Dave Donnelly. "It is nice to get Samantha signed during the summer. She can now focus on enjoying her senior year."
Hazzard signed her Letter of Intent on LCU's campus with Coach McLain, Coach Donnelly, and her parents in attendance.
"I'm really looking forward to playing at LCU" said Hazzard. "Out of all the schools I looked at, this is the one that I felt God calling me to."
