GARY, IN – The Lincoln Christian University (LCU) women's basketball team lost to both (#14) Indiana University-Northwest (IUNW) and Rochester College (RC) this weekend at the A.I.I. Classic hosted at IUNW.
The Friday afternoon game pitted LCU against IUNW, and the Red Lions struggled all game and lost 68-40. Katie Boyce (JR/Havana, IL) led the team in scoring and rebounds, recording her 11th double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.
28 turnovers hurt the Red Lions ability to produce on offense, and the girls shot just 29 percent from the field.
The Saturday morning contest was more of the same, although Lincoln Christian did outscore RC by two in the first quarter and kept it close in the second. A seven point halftime deficit turned into 21 by the end of the third period, and RU eventually ran away with it to a tally of 73-39.
LCU shot 21 percent from the floor and committed 27 turnovers in the game. Boyce had 11 points and eight rebounds and Akre had nine and four to lead the Red Lions.
"Long term I think this weekend will be good for us. We have some young players who are beginning to realize what it takes to compete at a high level," LCU Head Coach Christian Lowry said. "Rochester and IU-Northwest are two quality NAIA programs and their girls compete on every possession. We're not there yet, and I think that showed this weekend, but that's the goal. I hope my girls can turn what was a tough couple days into motivation for the rest of the year."
The weekend's losses bring the girls' season record to 6-7.
LCU heads to Emmaus Bible College on Jan. 27 for a 5 p.m. game.
