LINCOLN, IL – The Lincoln Christian University (LCU) women's basketball team struggled mightily in its loss Saturday afternoon to the Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) Sabercats. The LCU defense held MBU to just 36 percent shooting from the field, but the home team scored just 33 in the game and lost 50-33.
"We didn't bring it today and that includes everyone, from the coaches on down," LCU Head Coach Christian Lowry said following his team's loss. "Just a pretty disappointing performance from beginning to end. We have to do a better job of responding to adversity. Maranatha's press gave us trouble all game, and I felt like we never recovered from it."
Katie Boyce (JR/Havana, IL) was the lone player to reach double figures for the Red Lions. She had 15 points and 13 rebounds, her 10th double-double in as many games. The story of the game for the LCU offense was turnovers. The girls committed 20 by halftime, and finished with a season high 35. They also shot just 30 percent from the floor.
"We have a very challenging next few games and it will be critical for us to grow up and become mentally tougher," Lowry said.
The loss brings LCU's season record to 6-4 on the year.
The girls face off against Trinity International University next Tuesday, Jan. 17. The game is at LCU and starts at 7 p.m.
